What You'll Need:
·3/4 L Glass Jar
Jar Lid
Organic Bread Flour
Filtered Water
A Scale
Wooden Spoon or Spatula
Day 1: 1. Begin by combining 50g of flour and 50g of water in a clean glass jar. Mix well until there are no lumps.
Day 2: Pour 25g of the mixture into a separate clean jar. This will be your starter. Add 50g of flour and 50g of water and mix well.
Day 3-7. Repeat this process of pouring 25g of the mixture into a new jar and adding 50g of flour and 50g of water to the original jar.
This daily feeding helps to develop the starter's flavor and activity. 5. Be patient: The process of creating a sourdough starter usually takes around 7 days, but it can take longer. Your starter is ready to bake with when it doubles in size, becomes bubbly, and has a pleasantly sour smell.
Once your starter is ready, you can maintain it by feeding it daily. To do this, discard all but 20g of the starter, then add 100g of water and 100g of flour. This maintains a 1:5:5 ratio of starter, water, and flour. Mix well and let it sit at room temperature until it becomes active and bubbly again.
